School Bus Hits E-Rickshaw Near Majlis Park Metro Station, Killing 12-Year-Old Girl

A 12-year-old schoolgirl was killed on Tuesday morning after a school bus rammed into the e-rickshaw she was riding near the Majlis Park Metro station in Delhi. The victim, identified as Priyanshi, was run over by the bus after falling onto the road, prompting allegations from her family that bystanders filmed the aftermath on their phones instead of immediately offering help.
Priyanshi, a Class 6 student who had recently joined a new school in Model Town, was commuting from her home in Mukundpur's Rama Garden when the accident occurred. She was travelling in an e-rickshaw driven by 45-year-old Ajay Prasad, a family acquaintance. Priyanshi's 16-year-old sister was also in the vehicle at the time.
According to the Delhi Police, a school bus carrying children hit the e-rickshaw from behind. The impact caused Priyanshi to fall onto the road. The bus driver, identified as Kamal Singh from Burari, allegedly told police he was unable to stop the vehicle in time and ran over the child.
Following the collision, Priyanshi's sister and other children in the area screamed for help. However, the victim's uncle, Roshan Kumar, alleged that onlookers wasted critical time.
"People were too busy making videos," Kumar said, stating that five to ten minutes were lost before a bystander finally picked Priyanshi up and took her to the hospital.
Priyanshi was rushed to BJRM Hospital in Jahangirpuri, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The Delhi Police have arrested the bus driver, Kamal Singh, and are questioning the e-rickshaw driver as part of their ongoing investigation.
Upon inspecting the bus, police officers discovered that the vehicle was operating in violation of mandatory safety norms for school transport. The bus was not painted yellow, nor did it display the required 'On School Duty' signage.
Priyanshi's father, Pramod Kumar, works as a security guard near a local mall. The family resides in Rama Garden, a neighbourhood largely inhabited by labourers, gig workers, and e-rickshaw drivers.
