Satyam Pandit Slaps Bareilly Student Near Delhi Hanuman Mandir Over CJP Protest
A right-wing group leader allegedly harassed two students participating in a protest and slapped one of them near Hanuman Mandir, close to the Jantar Mantar protest site in Delhi, on July 24. Satyam Pandit, who claims to be the president of the Rashtra Hindu Veer Sena, confronted the two youths over claims that demonstrators were abusing Lord Ram and the Prime Minister.
The victim, Ayush, a student from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, said he had been staying at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi since July 23 to participate in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest. Ayush stated that he and his friend were walking to the demonstration site when a car stopped nearby, and an occupant verbally abused and assaulted them while another recorded the event.
A one-minute video of the incident went viral on social media platforms after the accused posted it. The footage shows Pandit, wearing an orange scarf, questioning the two youths about their names, where they lived, and why they were supporting the CJP protest. During the recording, Pandit grabbed one of the students by his collar and slapped him twice as both youths pleaded to be let go.
Explaining his actions, Pandit claimed he heard that people attending the CJP protest were raising anti-national slogans and abusing the Prime Minister and Lord Ram. He stated that while insults toward politicians could be ignored, insults against Lord Ram would not be tolerated. He acknowledged that the video was recorded near Hanuman Mandir on July 24 and said he was prepared to face legal consequences if the police initiated action against him.
Delhi Police stated they had not received a formal complaint regarding the assault but were verifying the authenticity of the video. Meanwhile, Ayush spoke to local media demanding strict legal action against Pandit. The video drew widespread attention after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared it on social media, criticizing the violence.
According to police, Pandit is a resident of Ghaziabad and a final-year law student. He faces around six cases in Ghaziabad registered between 2022 and 2026, including charges related to assaulting shopkeepers, vendors, and a meat shop owner, as well as making hateful remarks.
