Rouse Avenue Court Seeks Police Report on Complaint Against CM Rekha Gupta

Rouse Avenue Court Seeks Police Report on Complaint Against CM Rekha Gupta

The Rouse Avenue Courts in Delhi on Saturday directed the Delhi Police to submit a status report on a complaint seeking the registration of a First Information Report against Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for allegedly comparing Delhi government officials to Hanuman.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar issued the direction to the station house officer of the Kashmere Gate police station. The order came on a complaint filed by Ram Niwas Sharma under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which pertains to the examination of a complainant following cognisance by a magistrate, read with an application under Section 175(3) of the BNSS regarding a magistrate's authority to direct the registration of an FIR.

According to the complaint, the contentious remarks were made on September 23, 2025, during an official government programme held at the Kashmere Gate ISBT. The event was organised to mark the commencement of Delhi Transport Corporation bus services connecting Delhi to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.

Sharma alleged that while addressing government officials and members of the public at the terminal, Gupta compared Delhi government officials to Hanuman. The complaint stated that the Chief Minister said officials remember their powers only when their tail is set on fire and otherwise forget about them, purportedly while admonishing them for failing to work systematically.

Contending that the statements warranted criminal action, Sharma approached the court seeking an order for the police to register an FIR against the Chief Minister.

After hearing the complainant and perusing the case records, the court directed the Kashmere Gate SHO to submit a status report in the matter. The court also ordered that a copy of the judicial order, along with Sharma's complaint and its annexures, be transmitted to the SHO for compliance. The matter is scheduled to be heard next on October 15.
