PWD to Repair Damaged Stretches on Ring Road and NH-8

The Public Works Department (PWD) is set to carry out targeted patch repairs on damaged stretches of NH-8 and Ring Road to tackle potholes, worn-out surfaces, and localised road damage on two of the region's busiest transit corridors.

The repair initiative focuses specifically on sections of the carriageway that have deteriorated over time as a result of heavy vehicular traffic, weathering conditions, water seepage, and routine wear and tear. Rather than carrying out a complete resurfacing of the entire road network, the PWD will concentrate its efforts directly on the distressed segments that require immediate structural attention.

Under the proposed technical plan, the existing damaged asphalt will be stripped away using cold milling techniques. The department plans to employ mechanical milling machinery to completely remove the affected surface layers instead of merely overlaying fresh asphalt on top of already damaged and uneven road sections.

Following the removal of the compromised road material, a fresh 40-50 mm layer of bituminous concrete will be laid down and thoroughly compacted across the milled stretches. This process aims to restore smooth driving conditions and reinforce the durability of the carriageway.

The planned repairs are critical for regional connectivity, as both Ring Road and NH-8 handle substantial traffic volumes throughout the day. Ring Road functions as a vital arterial route within the capital, while NH-8 serves as a major transit link connecting Delhi, Gurgaon, and the airport.

Department officials noted that the exercise is being executed as part of the PWD's annual maintenance programme. The primary objective of the preventive maintenance is to resolve localised road deterioration promptly before surface wear develops into larger and more disruptive road hazards.
