PWD to Add 400 Critical-Care Beds Across Five Delhi Government Hospitals

Delhi government hospitals are set to add 400 critical-care beds under a plan by the Public Works Department (PWD) to construct dedicated critical-care blocks across five facilities in the capital, including Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi.

The proposed healthcare facilities are slated for Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Maharshi Valmiki Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, and the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS).

Under the plan, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Maharshi Valmiki Hospital, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital will each receive 100-bed critical-care blocks. The remaining two facilities, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and IHBAS, will each be equipped with 50-bed blocks.

The PWD has initiated the process by inviting tenders to appoint a consultancy agency for the project. The chosen consultant will handle integrated planning, architectural and engineering design, proof-checking, and other technical services necessary for developing the specialized units.

As part of the consultancy scope, the agency will conduct assessments of the existing hospital campuses and surrounding areas. This work will include topographical surveys and detailed mapping of underground utilities and civic infrastructure, including roads, drains, manholes, and light poles.
