PWD Plans Foot Overbridge on Boulevard Road Near Kashmere Gate Metro Station

NEW DELHI — A new foot overbridge is being planned on Boulevard Road near the Kashmere Gate metro station to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety at one of the city's major transit hubs.

The Public Works Department has invited architectural and engineering consultancy services to design and plan the proposed facility. Once constructed, the overbridge will link the areas surrounding metro station gates 3 and 4 with gates 5 and 6 across Boulevard Road.

Kashmere Gate serves as a crucial interchange hub where the Red, Yellow, and Violet lines of the Delhi Metro converge. The station precinct is surrounded by heavily trafficked roads and multiple public transport facilities, generating high volumes of daily commuter movement.

Pedestrians currently moving between the metro station entrances, nearby roads, and transit facilities face heavy vehicular traffic. The planned foot overbridge is intended to provide pedestrians with a safer, grade-separated alternative to crossing Boulevard Road at the surface level.

According to the project requirements, the selected consultant will handle civil, structural, and electrical engineering services. The initial phase of work will involve comprehensive site surveys and investigations.

These preparatory assessments will include a topographical survey, the mapping of existing underground and surface utilities, and detailed soil investigations to determine ground conditions for designing the bridge's foundation structure.

Following the investigation phase, the appointed agency will draft the concept design and layout for the foot overbridge in coordination and consultation with the PWD and other relevant authorities.
