PWD Begins Feasibility Study for Road Corridor Along Najafgarh Drain

The Public Works Department has initiated the process of examining the feasibility of a major road corridor along the Najafgarh drain in New Delhi. The department has invited consultants to assess the possibility of developing both elevated and at-grade road infrastructure along the stretch connecting Dhansa Border and Wazirabad.

The proposed study is designed to assess traffic movement, road geometry, land availability, and utility requirements across the corridor. The findings will help evaluate various development options before authorities finalize an integrated transit corridor and comprehensive street network plan for the area.

As part of the assignment, the selected consultant will carry out reconnaissance, traffic surveys, and preliminary topographical surveys. The consultant will also be responsible for preparing three distinct conceptual proposals outlining key design features, including lane configurations, intersection designs, junction improvements, and dedicated service roads along the route.

Beyond basic alignment and geometry, the study will examine the requirements for shifting existing utilities, obtaining necessary environmental and forest clearances, and identifying land acquisition needs. The consultant will also determine tentative project costs before establishing the overall feasibility of the corridor.

A detailed traffic assessment will form a core component of the study, covering all categories of vehicles alongside pedestrians and non-motorised transport users. To accurately understand travel patterns along the corridor, the consultant will conduct 24-hour traffic counts, turning-movement surveys at major junctions, and origin-destination studies across the project influence area.
