Protester On Ventilator At RML Hospital After Sansad Chalo Clashes In New Delhi
A young female protester was placed on ventilator support at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi after sustaining critical injuries during clashes between Delhi Police and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) supporters on Monday. The violence erupted during the CJP's 'Sansad Chalo' march, where thousands of demonstrators attempted to march towards Parliament to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities.
The injured woman remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. While several others were injured during the Monday clashes, she is currently the only patient who remains hospitalized.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal confirmed the status of the injured on Tuesday. Kejriwal stated that, except for the young woman, everyone else has been discharged from the medical facility. This includes all other injured students as well as the injured police personnel who received treatment following the clashes.
The incident drew visits from several prominent political figures to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Opposition leaders, including Congress figures Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as well as Kejriwal, visited the hospital to meet with the injured protesters. Meanwhile, Union Minister JP Nadda also visited the hospital to consult with the medical team and doctors who are treating the patients.
The clashes on Monday began when thousands of CJP supporters tried to breach police barricades during their march toward Parliament. The Delhi Police had previously imposed prohibitory orders in the area under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Despite these orders, protesters attempted to push through the security cordons, resulting in repeated physical confrontations between the police and the marchers.
As the critically injured protester continues to receive treatment on a ventilator, the CJP's sit-in protest has entered its second day, with demonstrators continuing their demands regarding the examination irregularities.
