Property Dealer Killed in Fight Over Kalkaji Building Construction, 3 Detained
A 42-year-old property dealer was killed and his younger brother injured during a physical fight over construction work at a building in southeast Delhi's Kalkaji during the intervening night of September 19-20, police said.
The deceased was identified as Manjeet Singh alias Bunty, a local resident engaged in property dealing who lived with his wife, two children, mother, brother, and sister. According to police sources, Manjeet had been carrying out construction work at a ground-floor flat associated with his family amid an ongoing property dispute.
The violence erupted after residents of the building's third floor objected to the ongoing construction work. A heated argument between the occupants of the ground and third floors escalated, during which several individuals allegedly surrounded Manjeet and assaulted him.
The victim's younger brother, Dilbag Singh, said he rushed to the location with his sister after receiving information about the clash. Upon arrival, he discovered Manjeet lying unconscious on the road outside the building. When Dilbag attempted to intervene and stop a woman at the spot, he was pushed to the ground and assaulted before his sister helped him pull away from the attackers.
Both brothers were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared Manjeet dead. Dilbag received medical treatment for his injuries and was subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Delhi Police have registered a case of culpable homicide and detained three individuals, including two women, in connection with the fatal assault. Investigators stated that the detained persons are undergoing questioning and that further arrests may be made during the probe.
Officers are currently examining CCTV footage from the building premises and nearby areas to identify others who took part in the altercation. Police are also recording statements from family members, building residents, and eyewitnesses, while awaiting post-mortem findings to determine the exact nature and extent of the fatal injuries.
