Pregnant Defence Ministry Officer Found Dead in Dwarka; Husband Booked

A 30-year-old pregnant woman working with the Ministry of Defence was found dead at her residence in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka on Friday. Following the incident, police registered a case of cruelty and abetment of suicide against her husband, who works as a supply chain manager in Gurgaon, and her in-laws over allegations of dowry harassment.

The deceased was identified as Nazia Khanam, who served as an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Ministry of Defence. Khanam was three months pregnant at the time of her death. She had married Mohammad Azam Ali Khan on April 11 this year. Police confirmed that her husband is currently absconding.

According to police officials, the Sector 23 police station received a PCR call reporting the suicide at approximately 4:21 pm on Friday. A police team was dispatched to the location immediately and took possession of the body. The concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate was notified of the death, and the body was moved to the mortuary at DDU Hospital for mandatory legal and procedural formalities.

Detailing the events leading up to the incident, a senior police officer stated that the couple had visited a hospital earlier that day for a medical checkup. After returning home from the hospital, an argument erupted between Khanam and her husband. During the dispute, Khanam locked her husband inside one room and locked herself in another room, where she ended her life.

The police action followed formal complaints from Khanam’s family, who alleged that she had been enduring persistent harassment over dowry demands from her husband and his relatives. On the day of the incident, Khanam’s family members appeared before the Executive Magistrate and submitted written statements detailing the harassment.

Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and are actively searching for the absconding husband.
