Portion of Dilapidated Building Collapses in Chandni Mahal Amid Heavy Rain

A portion of a dilapidated building collapsed in the Chandni Mahal area of Old Delhi on Monday, August 24, 2026, amid heavy rainfall across the national capital, police said.

The collapse damaged three to four two-wheelers parked near the structure, but no casualties or injuries were reported from the scene.

Officials stated that the Chandni Mahal police station received a PCR call reporting the collapse at property number 1569 in Pahari Bhojla. Following the alert, a police team was immediately dispatched to the site to cordon off and secure the surrounding area.

Upon arrival, police personnel shifted people present at the site to a safe location to prevent any untoward incidents. Teams also worked to clear the area, removing vehicles that were trapped under or positioned close to the fallen debris.

According to the police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had already issued an official notice regarding the building's dilapidated condition. Repair work was reportedly underway at the site when the structure gave way during the downpour.

Police confirmed that necessary follow-up action is currently being carried out in coordination with MCD authorities.

The incident took place as widespread heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi throughout the day, triggering waterlogging and widespread traffic disruptions across multiple city locations.
