Paralympic athlete Chirag Tyagi shot dead in Ghaziabad, Yash Khatik arrested

On Saturday afternoon, the body of Paralympic athlete Chirag Tyagi was found shot dead in the Sai Kunj area of Ghaziabad. Local police officials launched an immediate investigation into the incident and have arrested another Paralympic athlete, Yash Khatik, in connection with the shooting.

The incident came to light after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, when the Ghaziabad Police received information regarding a body lying in the Sai Kunj area. Deputy Commissioner of Police (City and Trans Hindon) Dhawal Jaiswal stated that a police team was immediately dispatched to the spot. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and sent the body of the deceased athlete for a post-mortem examination.

The victim was subsequently identified as Chirag Tyagi. To track down the perpetrator, the police team reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Based on evidence gathered from the footage, investigators identified and arrested the accused, Yash Khatik.

According to Deputy Commissioner Jaiswal, Khatik confessed to the crime during police questioning. Khatik allegedly told the police that he and Tyagi had a history of practicing sports together. Both athletes had previously participated in various athletic competitions under the blind athletics category.

The motive behind the shooting was linked to a professional dispute between the two athletes. Khatik told the police that Tyagi had raised and submitted an official complaint regarding Khatik’s document verification process. Based on Tyagi's complaint, Khatik's athletic qualification was subsequently cancelled.

This cancellation reportedly left Khatik deeply upset. In an attempt to seek revenge against Tyagi for the loss of his qualification, Khatik allegedly shot Tyagi with a pistol.

While Khatik has been taken into custody, the Ghaziabad Police stated that the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are currently working to identify and locate other individuals who may have been involved in the crime.
