Over 400 Attend Sattriya Dance Drama Parijat Haran at National School of Drama

Over 400 people gathered at the National School of Drama in Delhi as the Delhi Kala Festival 2026 presented a staging of Srimanta Sankaradeva's classical dance drama Parijat Haran.

The performance introduced Delhi audiences to Sattriya, which is recognised as one of India's eight classical dance traditions originating from Assam.

The dance drama was directed by Sumanya Kashyap and Dr. Sukanya Baruah. In addition to co-directing the production, Dr. Baruah also performed on stage during the presentation.

Parijat Haran depicted the divine exploits of Lord Krishna through the contrasting emotions of Rukmini and Satyabhama. The production wove together music, dance, drama, and expressive storytelling to explore themes of love, jealousy, pride, devotion, and surrender.

Sarbananda Sonowal attended the cultural event at the National School of Drama as the chief guest.
