Over 12-Hour Rescue Launched After Building Collapses in Delhi's Satya Niketan

Emergency responders launched an intensive search and rescue operation on Sunday after a building collapsed in Delhi's Satya Niketan, trapping people beneath heavy concrete debris. The multi-agency operation continued for more than 12 hours as emergency teams battled structural instability and challenging conditions on the ground.

The rescue operation was severely hampered by crowded access routes and congested lanes inside the locality. Delhi Fire Services tenders and other large emergency vehicles were forced to park away from the immediate collapse site, which restricted the movement of heavy machinery needed to clear the rubble.

Local residents initially rushed to the scene to help after hearing frantic phone calls from people trapped beneath the wreckage. However, the scale of the reinforced concrete collapse quickly necessitated specialized intervention from trained disaster personnel.

To locate the trapped individuals, search teams deployed victim-location cameras and acoustic devices. The specialized equipment successfully detected faint signs of life deep beneath the heavy concrete blocks, helping guide rescuers through the unstable wreckage.

Delhi Civil Defence personnel and Delhi Police worked to manage the crowd and clear space for emergency teams. "Our immediate focus was to evacuate the area and control the panic," said Sumer Kumar, deputy chief warden of Delhi Civil Defence. "We worked to calm the crowd and ensure that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Fire Services could carry out the rescue safely. Teams from Delhi Police and civil defence are also present."

Rescue teams from the NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, civil defence, and local police remained deployed at the site to continue reaching those trapped under the concrete blocks.
