NHAI Starts Trial Run on DND-Jaitpur Stretch of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

The National Highways Authority of India has commenced a trial run on the DND Flyway-Jaitpur carriageway of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, covering the stretch between Ashram and Kalindi Kunj in south Delhi. However, full traffic relief for the heavily congested Kalindi Kunj junction remains pending because the opposite carriageway is still closed for safety-related installations.

The newly opened section spans 9 kilometres, of which nearly 8.5 kilometres is elevated. With this opening, officials noted that approximately 50 kilometres of the total 59-kilometre Delhi link connecting the DND Flyway to the Western Peripheral Expressway, also known as the KMP Expressway junction, has now been made operational in phases.

At present, commuter traffic travelling from Faridabad, Palwal, and surrounding regions along the expressway converges near the Kalindi Kunj area before proceeding further into Delhi. This heavy influx adds substantial pressure to the local intersection and the network of adjoining roads.

The expressway link was designed to provide a faster route connecting Delhi, Faridabad, and adjoining areas, while also addressing severe vehicular bottlenecks at the Kalindi Kunj intersection. The junction currently witnesses the movement of an estimated 5 to 6 lakh vehicles during peak hours.

According to sources, the complete impact of the new corridor on traffic flow can only be evaluated once the Jaitpur-DND carriageway is opened to the public. That side of the corridor is currently undergoing work to install rumble strips, speed breakers, and other traffic-calming measures before it can be cleared for vehicular movement.
