New Delhi DM Office Opens Citizen Lounge and Evening Study Hub for Students

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated a new "citizen lounge-cum-new-age learning centre" at the New Delhi District Magistrate (DM) office. The newly opened facility will serve as a comfortable waiting area for citizens during the day and transition into a dedicated community learning space and study hub for local students and job aspirants in the evening.
The facility, which has a seating capacity of 40 people, is designed to support underprivileged children from nearby settlements and civil services aspirants. It is equipped with air-conditioners, computers with Wi-Fi access, and a library featuring books ranging from novels to competitive exam preparation materials. Basic amenities such as washrooms, toilets, and drinking water are also available on-site.
During her visit, Chief Minister Gupta inspected the citizen lounge, the library, the reading corner, and a newly constructed toilet block. She described the initiative as an example of good governance and public service, emphasizing that the facility is a symbol of a new approach to administration. According to Gupta, the space will allow children from economically weaker sections to access facilities that are not ordinarily available to them.
The centre will operate as a citizen lounge from 9 am to 3 pm to accommodate people visiting the DM's office for services such as property registrations, court marriages, and certificates. An official noted that visitors, including couples in wedding outfits who previously had to wait in the open, can now wait comfortably in the air-conditioned lounge.
After 3 pm, the premises will open to students preparing for competitive exams and children from underprivileged families.
Officials also shared plans to expand the initiative on weekends by inviting volunteers to teach children from nearby slums music and painting, or guide them in extra-curricular activities. The administration plans to purchase equipment such as guitars, paints, and colors to keep in the library for these sessions.
