Narela police investigate death of 36-year-old dhol player found in open drain

A 36-year-old dhol player was found dead on Friday morning after falling into a four-foot-deep open roadside drain near Sector 5 in Narela, outer Delhi. The local police have launched an investigation to determine whether the incident was a tragic accident or involved foul play.

The deceased, identified as Suraj Kumar, was a local resident of Narela who lived with his family. The discovery of his body was made by local residents who were out for an early morning walk. Around 6:30 AM, these residents noticed a body floating in the roadside drain and immediately informed the local police.

Upon receiving the information, a team of officers from the Narela police station rushed to the spot. They found Kumar lying unconscious in the four-foot-deep open drain along the road. Officers pulled him out of the water and immediately transported him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The identity of the deceased was established after his brother, Dheeru, arrived at the scene. Dheeru told investigators that Kumar had gone out on Thursday night but had failed to return home. According to his family, Kumar was unmarried and earned a living by playing the dhol at various local events and functions in the area.

Family members also informed the police that it was not unusual for Kumar to be away, noting that he often stayed away from home for two to three days at a stretch.

Narela police investigators are currently trying to reconstruct the events leading to Kumar's death. They are working to ascertain how he reached the drain, looking into whether he accidentally slipped into the open pit or if he was placed there after being harmed by someone else.

Officials stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the postmortem examination is completed, after which further legal action will be initiated.
