Mother of Delhi Techie Vinay Gupta Recalls Fatal Attack by In-Laws at Home

The mother of Delhi tech professional Vinay Gupta, who was allegedly killed following a domestic dispute, has recounted the sequence of events leading up to the fatal assault on her son at their residence in New Delhi.

Renu Gupta alleged that relatives who arrived at their house alongside her daughter-in-law immediately initiated a confrontation with Vinay rather than accepting basic hospitality.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Renu Gupta stated that an ongoing minor dispute existed within the family, though she had not been aware of the details. She recalled that her husband informed her of the visitors' arrival, prompting her to greet them.

"There was some minor ongoing dispute that I wasn’t even aware of… My husband came in and said that the relatives have arrived. I tried to offer them water, but they said, ‘We don’t want your water,’" she said.

According to Renu Gupta, the situation escalated rapidly shortly after the exchange. She alleged that two brothers of her daughter-in-law attacked Vinay inside the house. During the assault, one of the men reportedly grabbed Vinay by his hair, while the other allegedly strangled him and slammed him onto the ground.

Renu Gupta stated that she attempted to intervene to protect her son from the assailants but was pushed away. When she grabbed a stick in an effort to defend him, an uncle who had accompanied the group stepped in and snatched it from her hands.

She further stated that a neighbour witnessed the incident and observed the two men stomping on Vinay’s chest during the attack.

Renu Gupta also noted that the security cameras installed at the family residence were switched off at the time the incident took place, leading her to question whether the attack on her son had been planned in advance.
