Mercedes driver arrested after fatal hit-and-run near Jahangirpuri Bus Stand

A 29-year-old scooty rider was killed on July 5 after his vehicle was hit by a speeding Mercedes near the foot overbridge at the Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the GTK Bypass in Delhi. The driver of the luxury car, identified as Ansh Pratap Singh, has been arrested by the Delhi Police following a hit-and-run investigation.
The victim, Deepak, was a resident of Mangolpuri. Following the collision, which occurred on the Outer Ring Road on the stretch heading towards ISBT, Deepak was found critically injured at the spot. He was immediately evacuated and taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital, where medical staff declared him brought dead.
According to the police, the Mercedes did not stop after the collision. The incident was brought to the attention of the authorities by a PCR caller, who informed the police that a Mercedes bearing a Haryana registration number had hit the scooty and fled the spot.
Using the registration details provided by the caller, the Delhi Police initiated a search to trace the offending vehicle. During the investigation, the police served a formal notice under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act to the registered owner of the Mercedes.
Through this process, investigators successfully identified Ansh Pratap Singh as the individual who was driving the luxury car at the time of the fatal accident.
Following his identification, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Jahangirpuri police station. Singh has been booked under the relevant provisions of the law, specifically Section 281 (rash driving) and Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Delhi Police confirmed that the accused driver has been arrested. Further investigation into the circumstances of the hit-and-run accident is currently underway.
