MCD Seals 36 Delhi Coaching Centres and Issues Notices to Three in Rohini

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued sealing show-cause notices to three coaching centres in Rohini as part of a major safety crackdown. The action in the Rohini zone is part of a wider campaign across the national capital, which saw the civic body seal 36 coaching centre properties and issue multiple show-cause notices to others for failing to comply with established safety guidelines.

The enforcement drive, which took place throughout the month of June, was launched to prevent hazardous conditions such as fires and flooding in commercial tutoring spaces. The crackdown follows a series of tragic incidents, including a recent coaching centre fire in Lucknow that claimed the lives of 15 people. The urgency of safety compliance was also highlighted by a July 2024 tragedy where three students lost their lives due to the flooding of a coaching centre's basement.

According to an official report released by the MCD on Monday, the civic body sealed 34 properties between June 1 and June 28. This was followed by the sealing of two more properties on June 29, bringing the total number of sealed coaching centres to 36.

The Keshavpuram zone saw the most extensive enforcement action, with 23 coaching centres sealed during joint operations. In other parts of Delhi, the MCD sealed seven properties in the Central zone, five properties in the West zone, and one property in the Karol Bagh zone.

In addition to the immediate sealings, the MCD issued warnings to several other non-compliant facilities. Between June 1 and June 28, the civic body issued sealing show-cause notices to six properties, followed by three more notices on Monday. These show-cause notices targeted three coaching centres in Rohini, two in Karol Bagh, two in the Shahdara South zone, and two in the Keshavpuram zone.

Through these actions, the MCD aims to enforce strict safety standards across all educational and coaching hubs in the city.
