Mascot Mayur Unveiled at Thyagaraj Stadium for 2026 Commonwealth Table Tennis

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education and Sports Minister Ashish Sood on Tuesday unveiled 'Mayur', the official mascot for the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, during a special ceremony at the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi. The major international tournament is scheduled to take place at the venue from July 27 to August 2, 2026, placing the capital city at the center of the international table tennis world.

The newly unveiled mascot, Mayur, is a purple peacock dressed in the official tournament jersey. The character features an elaborate fan of feathers that are adorned with the national flags of the participating Commonwealth nations. Officials at the event stated that the mascot's design represents India's rich cultural heritage while celebrating the diversity, unity, and sporting spirit of the Commonwealth community.

During the unveiling ceremony, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the chosen symbol. She stated that Mascot Mayur is inspired by India’s national bird and embodies energy, enthusiasm, vibrancy, and positivity. The launch event marks a key milestone in the city's preparations for the upcoming prestigious sporting event.

The tournament is set to bring together top paddlers from 25 Commonwealth countries. The participating nations confirmed for the championship include England, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Scotland, Wales, Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, Malta, Botswana, Jamaica, Kenya, and Trinidad and Tobago.

According to sports officials, hosting the 22nd edition of the championship is part of a broader, long-term effort to position Delhi as a global sporting destination. The upcoming event will serve as an important platform to showcase the city’s readiness to host major international competitions while simultaneously strengthening its local sports ecosystem. By welcoming top-tier athletes from across the globe, Delhi aims to demonstrate its organizational capabilities and sports infrastructure.
