Man shoots MCD teacher dead and dies by suicide in Burari

A 26-year-old school teacher was allegedly shot dead by her partner, who then died by suicide inside a rented accommodation in Burari, North Delhi. The incident, which police suspect to be a murder-suicide sparked by relationship issues and family opposition to their marriage, was discovered around 4:00 PM on Thursday.

According to the Delhi Police, the deceased woman was a teacher at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) school. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, she lived in the rented accommodation in Burari with her 21-year-old younger sister. Her partner, a man in his mid-20s, was originally from Haryana and lived separately.

A preliminary probe by the police suggests that the two had been in a relationship for approximately six months. However, tension had recently arisen between the couple. The woman's sister told the police that the teacher had called the man earlier in the day to express her intention to end the relationship, noting that he had been unemployed for some time.

The situation was further complicated by family opposition to their relationship. Police investigators learned that the man had posted a final message on his family’s WhatsApp group. In the text, he claimed that the woman’s mother was not agreeing to their marriage, and wrote that they were ending their lives.

The tragedy was discovered by the woman's 21-year-old sister, who found the two lying dead inside a locked room at the Burari residence. She immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene to find both individuals deceased.

This incident in Burari comes just days after another suspected murder-suicide in the national capital, where a Delhi Police constable killed his wife and subsequently shot himself dead.

The Delhi Police have initiated a full investigation into the Burari case to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the double tragedy.
