Man Injured After Chinese Manjha Slits His Throat at Maujpur Traffic Signal

A 35-year-old man suffered injuries after the glass-coated string of a stray kite, known as Chinese manjha, became entangled around his neck at the Maujpur traffic signal in northeast Delhi on Saturday.

According to the police, information was received from GTB Hospital around 2 pm that the victim, identified as Gaurav Sharma, had been admitted with severe injuries to his neck.

A senior police officer stated that Sharma was at the Maujpur traffic intersection on a motorcycle when the stray manjha got stuck to his neck and slit his throat. The impact caused him to fall from the two-wheeler, resulting in further injuries. Passersby rushed him to GTB Hospital, where medical authorities confirmed that he is currently out of danger.

Police officials said that a case is being registered in connection with the incident, and ongoing raids are being conducted across the area targeting vendors who continue to sell the banned Chinese manjha. The National Green Tribunal has imposed a strict ban on the sale and use of glass-coated synthetic kite strings.

Saturday's occurrence marks the third such kite-string injury reported in the national capital within a span of 10 days. On Wednesday, a three-year-old boy sustained injuries in Maujpur after a loose kite string became entangled around his neck while he was riding pillion with his elder brother on a two-wheeler.

Earlier, on August 5, a 32-year-old businessman was seriously injured in the Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi when a loose kite string slit his throat while he was riding his motorcycle home from work.
