Man Drowns, Three Missing in Yamuna River Near Geeta Colony

A 35-year-old man died and three others were feared drowned in the Yamuna river near Zero Pusta, Madina Masjid, in the Multani Mohalla area of East Delhi's Geeta Colony on Monday evening. The Delhi Fire Services received an emergency call regarding the incident at approximately 7:20 pm.

Fire department rescue teams, operating alongside local divers, managed to pull one victim out of the water by 8:10 pm. The victim was identified as 35-year-old Sonu. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where medical staff declared him brought dead on arrival.

The three other individuals who entered the river remain missing. Officials identified the missing persons as Sachin, Hemant, and Rajan. Search and rescue personnel engaged in the operation throughout the evening in an effort to locate them.

The search operation was put on hold at around 9:55 pm due to darkness. Station Officer Deshpal informed the fire department control room that the search was stopped for the night and would resume on Tuesday morning as per instructions from the police, according to Delhi Fire Services spokesperson Rajender Atwal.

Emergency response teams deployed to the scene included two fire vehicles—one dispatched from the Geeta Colony fire station and another from Laxmi Nagar. Divers, Delhi Fire Services personnel, and staff from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority were involved in the search effort.

Police and fire officials stated that it was not immediately known how the four individuals fell into the river. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, as well as the victims' backgrounds and how they were related to each other.

The tragedy comes nearly two weeks after four minor boys, aged 14 to 15, drowned in the Yamuna near Hiranki village in outer Delhi’s Alipur area after being swept away by strong water currents.
