Man arrested for shooting wife dead over infidelity dispute in south Delhi's Tigri

A 30-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband on Thursday afternoon in south Delhi's Tigri area following a dispute over allegations of infidelity. The Delhi Police arrested the accused husband on Friday after he initially fled the scene of the crime.

The victim, identified as Kavita Rajput, was shot at around 4:00 PM on Thursday. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots coming from the couple's residence and rushed to the house to investigate. Upon entering, they found Kavita bleeding from multiple injuries. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, where medical authorities declared her dead. Police later confirmed that she had sustained three bullet wounds.

The accused, Shubham Rajput, fled the area immediately after the shooting. Following a police search, he was apprehended and arrested late on Friday.

According to a senior police officer, the couple had been married for approximately two years. However, their marriage was marred by frequent disputes. The victim's family stated that Kavita suspected her husband was cheating on her and was in a relationship with another woman. The police officer noted that Shubham had procured a weapon and fired at his wife following a fight. The officer added that the accused had also threatened to kill Kavita on previous occasions.

In addition to the allegations of infidelity, Kavita's family accused Shubham of threatening and abusing her. An unnamed family member shared that Kavita had been complaining about his behavior for months. The relative alleged that although they got married about one and a half years ago, Shubham soon began demanding money. He had recently demanded Rs 20 lakh and threatened her life.

The family further alleged that Shubham was in heavy debt and wasted money on betting activities. He had previously worked at a gym in Sangam Vihar. According to the relative, Kavita had threatened to leave him after discovering his affair, which led to the fatal shooting.

The Delhi Police are currently verifying the allegations regarding the monetary demands as part of their ongoing investigation. Shubham Rajput remains in custody.
