Man Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Child in Central Delhi's Kishanganj
A 34-year-old man was arrested after he was allegedly caught sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the Kishanganj area of Central Delhi, police said on Monday. The accused was apprehended by local residents and handed over to law enforcement authorities.
The matter came to light when a group of locals arrived at the Shidipura police post alongside the minor victim and her family at around 6:30 pm. The residents reported to the police that the man had been caught in the act of sexually assaulting the child.
Police identified the accused as Ankit, a resident of Bagraoji Basti located in Kishanganj. Officers took Ankit into custody directly from the residents at the post.
The six-year-old victim was immediately sent for a medical examination. Police confirmed that a formal case is being registered under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigating teams have been inspecting the crime scene in Kishanganj to gather material evidence. Officials said they are working to establish the exact sequence of events surrounding the incident.
According to police, statements from the child and other individuals aware of the incident will be recorded in accordance with the law. The findings from the minor's medical examination report will also form an integral part of the ongoing investigation.
