Lucknow Man Arrested After Stabbing Wife to Death in Karkardooma Village

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning for allegedly stabbing his 30-year-old wife to death while she was sleeping in East Delhi's Karkardooma village. The victim, Sonam Joshi, had recently moved to the area and worked as a full-time domestic help in Noida.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Sunday. According to the Delhi Police, the accused, Anuj Joshi, entered the room where his wife was sleeping and stabbed her multiple times. Upon receiving a PCR call, police officers reached the spot and found Sonam lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries.

Senior police officers, along with the Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory team, inspected the scene to collect evidence.

During the investigation, police discovered that Anuj had purchased a knife in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and travelled to Delhi by bus to commit the crime. "He reached Karkardooma village at around 5.40 a.m. on Sunday, entered the room where Sonam was sleeping and stabbed her," said Rajendra Prasad Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara).

After the attack, the accused allegedly concealed the knife in a plastic bag inside the room. As he attempted to flee the scene, Sonam's family members and neighbours intercepted and caught him. Police reported that Anuj also tried to attack some of the family members and neighbours with the knife before they successfully restrained him.

The family and neighbours alerted the local police, who subsequently took Anuj into custody and recovered the murder weapon.

Anuj, who is also a resident of Lucknow, earned his livelihood by operating an ice-cream cart there. According to the police, Anuj was previously married to a woman named Jyoti, with whom he has two children. Following his divorce from Jyoti, he married Sonam, and the couple had three children together. All five children are currently residing in Lucknow.

The police have registered a case of murder against Anuj Joshi and are currently investigating the motive behind the crime.
