LIC Clerk Killed by Concrete Truck Near IIT Delhi Metro Station, Driver Arrested

A 35-year-old clerk with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) was killed on Wednesday morning after his motorcycle was run over by a concrete mixture truck on the Outer Ring Road near the IIT Delhi Metro station in south Delhi.

The deceased was identified as Manish Kumar, a resident of Uttam Nagar who was commuting to his office in Ghitorni when the incident occurred. According to police, a call regarding the road accident was received around 9:15 am. A responding police team found a damaged motorcycle and Kumar bleeding on the road near the footpath.

An eyewitness told police that Kumar was crushed under the rear wheels of the concrete truck while attempting to overtake the vehicle. He was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared brought dead.

Following the crash, the truck driver attempted to flee the spot without assisting the victim. However, passersby intercepted the vehicle at the nearby Hauz Khas flyover and handed the suspect over to the police, who placed him under arrest.

Police identified the suspect as a 33-year-old resident of Najafgarh. The driver told investigators that he was driving the ready-mix concrete truck from Najafgarh toward Panchsheel Park near Chirag Delhi, claiming he did not realise the motorcycle had come under the truck's rear wheels.

Kumar's elder brother, 38-year-old Jatinder Kumar, disputed the driver's statement, alleging that the driver was lying about not knowing about the accident because there was blood across the truck's wheels. Jatinder stated that the family learned of the death after a passerby found contact details on the victim's phone and called a friend.

Police registered a case at the Kishangarh police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 281 for negligent driving and 106 for causing death by a rash or negligent act. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed the investigation and legal actions.

Kumar was unmarried and is survived by his mother and his elder brother.
