Jamia Millia Islamia and NCERT Hold Faculty Development Programme on ICT
The Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), in collaboration with the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT, organised a three-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "ICT and Emerging Technologies for Teachers, Teacher Educators and Pupil Teachers" from 10 to 12 August, 2026.
The programme aimed to strengthen the technological and pedagogical capacities of educators, enabling them to engage critically and creatively with evolving educational technology. Approximately 100 participants, comprising pre-service and in-service teachers, postgraduate students, and research scholars, took part in the sessions.
The first day began with participant registration through the DIKSHA application, followed by a pre-test to assess their baseline understanding of the programme's core themes. Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Aejaz Masih, Head of the Department of Educational Studies, highlighted the growing importance of ICT in contemporary education and commended the joint initiative between JMI and CIET, NCERT.
Prof. Shireesh Pal Singh from the Media Production Division at CIET, NCERT, presented an overview of the FDP. He outlined the aims, scope, and structure of the course, explaining how the curriculum helps educators navigate contemporary technological advancements. He also detailed the role of the DIKSHA platform in executing programme implementation, assessments, and certification.
In his keynote address, Prof. Prakash Chandra Agarwal, Joint Director of NCERT, traced the evolution of technology from analogue systems to semiconductor-based developments and its influence on modern schooling. Describing technology as a potential equalizer in education, he stressed that its benefits depend on ensuring accessibility for all learners.
Delivering the presidential remarks, Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor of JMI, opened with an Urdu couplet and differentiated between "Gyaan" (knowledge) and "Shiksha" (education), noting that education requires understanding, values, and practical application. Drawing on his experience drafting the National Education Policy, Prof. Asif emphasized experiential learning and urged educators to help students connect theoretical concepts with real-world practice.
