INTEC Demands Expulsion of Delhi University Professor Over Alleged Casteist Remarks

The Congress-backed Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC) has written to the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor demanding the expulsion of a Political Science professor over alleged casteist remarks made during a television debate.

In a formal letter submitted to the Vice-Chancellor on August 20, the teachers' body strongly condemned the comments, stating that such rhetoric is harmful and contrary to constitutional principles.

"This statement is deeply offensive and derogatory toward the Dalit community. It perpetuates harmful historical prejudices, promotes social division, and flies in the face of our constitutional values of equality, dignity, and social justice," INTEC stated in the communication.

The organisation underscored the institutional responsibility held by educators, noting that their conduct directly impacts the academic atmosphere of the university.

"Academics and leaders in higher education carry a duty to foster social harmony and uphold egalitarian principles. Utterances of this nature degrade the standing of an educator and undermine the inclusive academic environment that University of Delhi strives to maintain," the letter added.

Delhi University officials have not yet issued a response or commented on the complaint lodged by the teachers' group.
