IMD Predicts Fairly Widespread Rain and Isolated Heavy Spells for Delhi
The India Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread rainfall over Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh, with isolated heavy rain also likely as the southwest monsoon continues across the region.
According to the weather agency, several parts of north India are under an alert for wet conditions. Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh are also expected to remain wet, with heavy rain possible across these regions. Uttarakhand is also likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
In Uttar Pradesh, widespread rainfall is anticipated across both the western and eastern parts of the state. Central India is also projected to see active weather conditions, with heavy rain likely over Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, west Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha. Thunderstorms and lightning have been forecast for Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh, while Vidarbha could experience thunderstorms with gusty winds.
Eastern and northeastern regions are similarly under a weather watch. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. Heavy rain is also likely in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, alongside Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are predicted over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Rajasthan.
In western and southern India, widespread rainfall is expected across Konkan, Goa, and coastal Karnataka, with heavy rain possible in central Maharashtra. Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep are also likely to receive widespread rain, while showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds are forecast for parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana.
The weather department noted that the southwest monsoon is expected to remain active across multiple regions, with rainfall activity continuing nationwide through August 20.
