IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Delhi As City Expects Moderate Rain On Tuesday
The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Tuesday, forecasting moderate rainfall and generally cloudy skies across the national capital. Weather officials at Safdarjung, the city's base observatory, recorded a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning, which is one notch below the seasonal average. The maximum temperature in the capital is expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius during the day.
According to official weather data, the city received an average of 4 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Stations across various localities saw varying levels of precipitation during this timeframe. The Ridge station recorded the highest rainfall among the monitored spots at 6.9 mm, while Lodi Road registered 4.8 mm. Meanwhile, Palam recorded trace rainfall and Ayanagar reported no rainfall at all over the same 24-hour period.
Minimum temperatures recorded across local weather observatories showed cooler morning conditions in several parts of the city. Palam registered a minimum temperature of 24.6 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1 notches below normal. The Ridge recorded a minimum of 23.3 degrees Celsius, placing it 2.6 notches below the seasonal average. Lodi Road saw a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, which was normal for this time of year, while Ayanagar recorded a minimum of 26.7 degrees Celsius, standing 0.6 notch above normal.
Alongside the rain forecast, atmospheric conditions kept pollution levels down across the capital. Delhi's Air Quality Index stood at 75 at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, placing the capital's air quality in the "satisfactory" category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board.
The Central Pollution Control Board standard scale classifies an Air Quality Index reading between 0 and 50 as "good," while an index score between 51 and 100 falls under the "satisfactory" range. Higher categories on the board's scale include "moderate" for scores between 101 and 200, "poor" for 201 to 300, "very poor" for 301 to 400, and "severe" for AQI levels between 401 and 500.
