IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Uttarakhand, Odisha, and Six Other States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in New Delhi has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across multiple states on Monday, issuing alerts for Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, and Uttarakhand.
According to the weather agency, several other regions across the country are also expected to experience heavy downpours, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are predicted in parts of east, central, and northeastern India, as well as Jammu and Kashmir.
In North India, Uttarakhand is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Monday. Heavy rain has also been forecast for Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad. Rainfall is expected to become more widespread across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from Sunday to Tuesday, while wet conditions will persist in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the coming days.
Central India will see significant activity, with Chhattisgarh likely receiving heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations on Monday. East Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rainfall, while West Madhya Pradesh faces forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
In eastern India, Jharkhand and Odisha remain under heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings. Bihar and West Bengal are also likely to experience heavy rain in parts, with intense precipitation in Odisha expected to continue over the upcoming days. Thunderstorms with gusty winds and lightning have been forecast across Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In the Northeast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated spots in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Monday. Heavy showers are also anticipated in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, with the region expected to remain wet alongside thunderstorm and lightning activity.
Across western and southern India, Konkan and Goa are likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall through Friday. Scattered rain is forecast for Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, and Kutch. In the south, Kerala, Mahe, and Coastal Karnataka are slated for widespread wet conditions, with rain also anticipated in parts of Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, and Lakshadweep.
The IMD stated that rainfall activity across several parts of the country is expected to remain active through the first week of September.
