Heavy Rain Lashes Noida and Delhi-NCR as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Heavy rain lashed Noida and the wider National Capital Region on Thursday, bringing significant relief to local residents and commuters after days of intense heat and high humidity. Following the downpour, the India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for the region, predicting continued wet weather, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

The sudden change in weather on Thursday was marked by overcast skies and gusty winds, which immediately brought down the temperatures across Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi. The cooler conditions provided a welcome break for office-goers and daily commuters who had been struggling with hot and humid weather over the previous days.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Noida and surrounding areas are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The weather office has forecast strong surface winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h, with these conditions expected to persist between July 1 and July 6. Overcast and cloudy skies are predicted to remain throughout the week, bringing intermittent spells of rain across the capital and surrounding areas.

While these pre-monsoon showers have already begun to affect the local weather, the India Meteorological Department stated that the southwest monsoon has not yet officially reached the region. However, the monsoon system has advanced into parts of Uttar Pradesh and is steadily moving closer to the national capital, as well as Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Meteorologists noted that atmospheric conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for the official arrival of the monsoon.

This week's wet spell began with an initial round of rain and strong winds on Tuesday night, which first broke the intense heatwave conditions in the area. Thursday's heavier downpour has further established the cooler trend, with local residents preparing for a week of sustained wet weather and cloudy skies.
