Heavy Rain Floods ITO Chowk, Sadar Bazar and Other Delhi Areas

Heavy afternoon rainfall lashed several parts of the national capital on Monday, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic disruption across key localities including ITO Chowk, Munirka, Badarpur, and Aerocity.

At ITO Chowk, severe water accumulation brought vehicular movement to a crawl, triggering massive traffic congestion along major connecting stretches. In addition to ITO and Munirka, waterlogged streets were also reported from Badarpur, Aerocity, and Sikanderpur Ghosi, causing inconvenience to commuters navigating the city.

The downpour also severely affected commercial activity in Sadar Bazar, Delhi's prominent commercial hub. Rainwater inundated multiple shops in the market, damaging stored goods and leaving local traders stranded and helpless as water entered their premises.

The extensive waterlogging triggered a political confrontation between political parties over civic preparedness. Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj targeted the Delhi administration and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta regarding the management of waterlogging across the city.

Bharadwaj shared visuals on social media platform X showing children wading through waist-high floodwater in inundated streets, taking a sarcastic swipe at the administration. He posted that he offered heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the government for arranging free water parks for children in the city.

Highlighting the situation in trade areas, Bharadwaj also posted footage from Sadar Bazar, pointing out that water had flooded commercial establishments, ruining goods and leaving shop owners to deal with the damage caused by the sudden rain.
