Gurugram Restricts Heavy Vehicle Movement to Delhi for Independence Day Security

Authorities in Gurugram are restricting the movement of heavy vehicles traveling toward Delhi from August 12 to August 15 as part of heightened security measures for Independence Day. The traffic restrictions across key border entry points between Gurugram and the national capital are intended to facilitate security arrangements and manage expected traffic movement ahead of the national celebration.

The four-day restriction on heavy commercial transport is expected to place added pressure on secondary routes. Daily commuters traveling between Gurugram and Delhi have been warned to prepare for longer travel times and congestion, particularly at primary entry points separating the two cities.

These measures are part of a broader security drill taking place across the capital region leading up to August 15. In nearby Delhi, traffic police have rolled out extensive road management plans, including closures around the Red Fort for a full-dress rehearsal scheduled for August 13.

During the August 13 rehearsal, major thoroughfares around Old Delhi, central Delhi, and the Red Fort will be closed to general vehicular traffic. Diverted traffic routes and strict morning restrictions will remain active from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m.

While restrictions apply to interstate buses and goods vehicles, authorities confirmed that special access provisions have been put in place for emergency services heading to hospitals as well as travelers reaching major railroad stations.

Travelers heading from Gurugram into central and Old Delhi areas over the coming days are advised to plan their trips well in advance to account for border security checkpoints and related travel delays.
