Gurugram Issues School Bus Safety Measures After 300 Students Stranded in Rain

The Gurugram district administration on Tuesday issued a comprehensive set of measures to ensure the safe movement of school buses during the monsoon, following an incident where 14 private school buses carrying nearly 300 schoolchildren were stranded for hours due to waterlogging caused by heavy rain across the city.

The administrative directives mandate several safety protocols, including route status reports on days with adverse weather, real-time updates on waterlogged stretches, and the deployment of staff escorts on school buses.

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh stated that the protocol is intended to prevent delays and hazardous situations for commuting students.

"The objective is to ensure that decisions regarding school bus movement and student dispersal are taken proactively," said Singh.

The measures follow widespread water accumulation across Gurugram after heavy rainfall, which brought transit to a standstill and left hundreds of students stuck on the roads for hours.
