Greater Noida man arrested for shooting neighbor in Thora village over brick dispute

A 30-year-old man was critically injured after being shot by his 28-year-old neighbor in Thora village, Jewar, Greater Noida, on Sunday night. The shooting, which occurred around 9:00 PM, was the culmination of a 10-month-old dispute over bricks taken from an under-construction house.

According to the Greater Noida police, the victim had stepped out of his home on Sunday night when the 28-year-old accused allegedly shot him. The bullet struck the victim in the middle of his shoulder and chest.

Hearing the sound of gunshots, the victim’s family members rushed outside. They found the 30-year-old injured and immediately took him to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to another hospital, where officials reported his condition as critical.

Investigators revealed that the two neighbors, both residents of Thora village, had a history of conflict. Around 10 months prior to the shooting, they had fought over bricks that the victim had allegedly taken from the under-construction house of the accused.

An investigator said that a verbal spat had erupted during that earlier dispute, which escalated when the 30-year-old assaulted the 28-year-old. Following that altercation, a police case was registered against the 30-year-old in Jewar, and a chargesheet was subsequently filed.

Police officials confirmed that Sunday night's shooting was a direct consequence of the unresolved conflict from 10 months ago.

On Monday, following a complaint filed by the victim’s family, the police registered a case of attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused.

Ajay Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jewar, stated that the 28-year-old accused has been arrested. Police officers also recovered the illegal country-made pistol that was allegedly used to commit the crime.
