GIPMER's Neuro Cath Lab Completes Six Months of Advanced Neurovascular Care

The Neuro Cath Lab at the Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER) in Delhi has completed six months of service, expanding access to specialized neurovascular treatments for patients across the national capital and neighbouring States.

The facility was inaugurated in February this year by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh. Since opening, the specialised lab has provided diagnostic cerebral and spinal digital subtraction angiography, endovascular coiling of intracranial aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformation embolisation.

Recently, the lab expanded its clinical capabilities by introducing thrombectomy procedures for acute stroke patients. This intervention is being carried out in close collaboration with the institute's Department of Neurology and Department of Radiology, allowing teams to undertake complex and time-sensitive neurovascular cases.

A key feature of the Neuro Cath Lab is its hybrid operational model, which integrates open microsurgical and endovascular expertise for case-specific treatment planning. Alongside patient care, the facility functions as a training centre, offering specialized fellowships and observerships for neurosurgeons seeking advanced training in neurovascular interventions.

Anita Jagetia, Director Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at GIPMER, stated that the facility has significantly enhanced the institute's capacity to manage complex neurological conditions and acute stroke cases through advanced endovascular techniques.

With its multidisciplinary setup and advanced intervention capabilities, the facility continues to handle high-complexity neurovascular cases and provide critical emergency interventions for acute stroke patients from Delhi and surrounding regions.
