FSSAI Suspends Licences of Shivam Agro and TCF Chocolates in New Delhi

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India suspended the licences of Shivam Agro and TCF Chocolates & Gifts Pvt Ltd on Thursday following the discovery of severe food safety and hygiene violations during inspections in New Delhi. The statutory food regulator announced that both firms must cease all food business operations with immediate effect throughout the suspension period.

In a statement shared on social media, the authority explained that the punitive action was enforced following serious food safety non-compliance uncovered during official premises checks. The regulator emphasised that the measure reinforces the importance of maintaining food safety, hygiene protocols, and strict regulatory compliance across the food sector.

In the case of TCF Chocolates & Gifts Pvt Ltd, regulatory action was initiated after the food authority received a direct consumer complaint concerning food products purchased through an e-commerce platform. That complaint prompted safety inspectors to visit and examine the firm's premises.

During the site inspection, food safety officials noted substandard hygiene and sanitary conditions across the operational facility. Inspectors recorded widespread inadequate cleaning, improper waste disposal, and poorly maintained food-processing areas. The facility was also found to be operating without proper pest-control measures, leading to an active pest infestation on the premises. Inspecting officers observed cat droppings alongside uncovered drainage channels inside the operational area.

Regulators also discovered expired food colours and flavouring agents stored at the facility. Furthermore, cleaning chemicals were found stored directly adjacent to raw ingredients and other food-related materials, presenting contamination risks. Officials also observed that the individual handling food products was working without adequate protective equipment.

TCF Chocolates & Gifts Pvt Ltd also failed to produce mandatory compliance documentation required under national food safety regulations. Company representatives could not provide mandatory records relating to pest control, sanitation routines, staff medical examinations, employee training, equipment calibration, laboratory testing, or regulatory audits.
