Fruit Seller Arrested for Murder of Caretaker Found in Dwarka Sector-8 Drain

Delhi Police have arrested a 24-year-old fruit seller, Bhupender Pal alias Nanhe, in connection with the brutal murder of a BSES helper and local building caretaker whose decomposed body was recovered from a drain in Dwarka Sector-8. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Pawan Kumar Yadav, who was employed as a helper at a BSES office while also working as a building caretaker in Bagdola Village.

The Dwarka case came to light after Yadav's body, which had been wrapped in plastic kattas, was discovered inside the Sector-8 drain on August 31. In response, police teams launched an inquiry and analysed extensive CCTV footage across surrounding locations to establish the identity of the deceased man and trace the movement of a suspicious loading tempo connected to the crime.

Investigators revealed that Bhupender Pal carried out the killing to seek revenge against Yadav. According to police, Yadav had previously locked the accused fruit seller and his girlfriend inside a room, an incident that prompted a public assault against Bhupender.

Following the fatal attack, Bhupender accessed Yadav's financial account to purchase clothes from the market. On August 27, the accused dumped the victim's body in the Dwarka Sector-8 drain before fleeing the capital to neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to evade arrest.

Tracking his movements to Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi Police apprehended Bhupender. Law enforcement personnel seized the loading tempo used in the incident, the market purchases made using Yadav's account, and the clothes worn by the accused during the commission of the crime.

Police announced on Monday that the Dwarka arrest was one of two unrelated murder cases cracked across New Delhi, with three suspects apprehended in total for incidents occurring between August 27 and September 6. In the second case, northeast district police from Jafrabad police station solved the stabbing of 19-year-old factory worker Sahil within four hours of receiving information from JPC Hospital, where he was declared brought dead on September 6.

In that incident, Jafrabad police registered an FIR and apprehended the victim's 21-year-old co-worker, also named Sahil, along with a 15-year-old child in conflict with the law. Interrogation revealed the accused harboured a grudge over an abusive comment on social media, and officers recovered the knife used in the attack.

Officials confirmed that further investigations into both homicide cases remain under way.
