Four Drown in Yamuna Near Geeta Colony in East Delhi, Search Underway

Four people allegedly drowned while bathing in the Yamuna river near Yamuna Khadar in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony on Monday evening. Emergency responders launched a joint search and rescue operation immediately after the incident occurred, officials confirmed.

According to local residents, the four individuals entered the river around 7:20 pm to take a bath when they were suddenly swept away by the water. Eyewitness accounts prompted immediate calls to authorities, who deployed search parties to the stretch along the riverbank.

A joint rescue operation was established, bringing together personnel from the Delhi Police, the Delhi Fire Service, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and members of a local boat club. Police stated that search operations were continuing late into the night with multiple teams deployed at the spot.

Officials reported that one body has been recovered from the water so far. The deceased individual appears to be a man aged between 35 and 40 years old. Officials added that the identities of the recovered man and the three other victims are yet to be ascertained.

The incident near Geeta Colony is the latest in a series of drowning cases reported across the city this year. Earlier this month, four Class X students drowned while bathing in the Yamuna near Hiranki village in outer north Delhi. Their bodies were recovered following an extensive multi-day search operation carried out by the Delhi Police, NDRF, and other rescue agencies.

In another recent case, a seven-year-old boy named Rehan drowned in a rainwater-filled pit near his home in Samaypur Badli after allegedly slipping into the water. Search efforts along the Yamuna in east Delhi remain active.
