Five Arrested for Murder of Farmer Staged as SUV Crash in Kanjhawala

Delhi Police have arrested five men in connection with the murder of a farmer, Deepak Dabas, who was crushed under a Scorpio SUV near Chandpur Majra Road in Kanjhawala on July 16. Investigators revealed the killing was the result of a 22-year-old revenge plot disguised as a road accident.

The alleged main conspirator, identified as 45-year-old Pawan alias Jagpal Dabas, was arrested on Wednesday. Police said the motive stemmed from an incident 22 years ago, when Deepak allegedly molested Jagpal’s sister.

According to DCP (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal, Deepak, a resident of Majra Dabas village, was killed while riding his scooter. The case was initially registered as a fatal road accident. However, after Deepak's family raised suspicions of foul play, a joint team from the Kanjhawala police station and the Rohini district special staff launched a detailed investigation.

The probe uncovered multiple earlier bids to murder Deepak. In February, an unidentified person opened fire outside Deepak’s brother’s house. On July 2, a Hyundai i10 rammed into Deepak’s scooter in Majra Dabas while his 14-year-old son was accompanying him.

Police achieved a breakthrough following the arrest of 30-year-old Sagar Kala on July 17. Kala allegedly confessed that the July 2 collision had been an intentional attempt to kill Deepak.

Investigators subsequently arrested co-accused Atul, 30, and recovered both the Scorpio used in the fatal July 16 crash and the Hyundai i10 from his possession. Two other suspects, Sahil, 23, and Prince alias Tilli, 24, were also arrested. Sahil was booked for allegedly harbouring Jagpal and attempting to destroy evidence, while Prince was arrested for arranging the SUV used in the crime.
