Faridabad man allegedly drowns pregnant wife in bucket of water

A 26-year-old graphic designer allegedly murdered his 23-year-old pregnant wife on Thursday by forcing her head into a bucket of water at their home in Panchsheel Colony Part-II, Faridabad, over suspicions of an extramarital affair. The suspect, Amit Gupta, fled the scene and is currently absconding.

The victim, Neha Kumari, was six months pregnant at the time of her death. According to the Faridabad police, Gupta called his uncle shortly after the incident to confess to the killing and asked him to handle the police and legal matters. Instead of helping, the uncle immediately alerted the police and informed other family members.

The couple had married on April 30, 2025, and had shifted to their new house in Panchsheel Colony Part-II from a rented accommodation near the Badarpur Border about a month ago, according to investigators.

Dilip Kumar, Neha's brother-in-law, stated that Gupta called his uncle living near the Badarpur border minutes after the incident, asking for help to handle the situation before fleeing. Kumar said family members rushed to the home and found Kumari lying dead on the floor with multiple injury marks on her body.

Investigators revealed that Gupta had grown suspicious of his wife, which led to frequent arguments. A senior police officer noted that Gupta had stopped going to work regularly and restricted Kumari from leaving the house. Neighbors and family members reported hearing a heated argument before the incident.

During the argument, Gupta allegedly assaulted and attempted to strangle Kumari before submerging her head in a water-filled bucket to drown her. Inspector Satya Parkash, station house officer of the Palla police station, stated that police recovered a bucket and a scarf from the crime scene.

Parkash said there was water on the floor, the victim’s upper body was soaked, and there were strangulation marks on her neck. Forensic experts indicated drowning as the cause of death, pending a postmortem examination. Police are currently conducting raids to trace and arrest the absconding suspect.
