Fallen tree damages Mercedes and another car on Raja Dhir Singh Marg

A tree collapsed on Raja Dhir Singh Marg in East of Kailash, South East Delhi, on Tuesday afternoon, damaging a parked Mercedes and another vehicle. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm during heavy rain and strong winds that swept across the national capital. No injuries were reported from the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes confirmed that the vehicle was stationary when the tree suddenly fell. According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), the falling branches also damaged another passing car. The DFS received a call regarding the incident at 1:38 pm and immediately dispatched a fire tender to the spot.
Personnel from the Public Works Department (PWD) also reached the site to cut and remove the fallen tree. The collapse had temporarily disrupted traffic on Raja Dhir Singh Marg, and the clearance operations were launched to clear the carriageway and restore normal vehicle movement.
The owner of the damaged Mercedes highlighted the need for preventive maintenance as the monsoon season begins. He urged local authorities to prune vulnerable tree branches and take appropriate measures to minimize the risk of similar rain-related accidents in the future. Officials stated that strong winds likely caused the tree to collapse.
The incident occurred as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "red" alert for rain and strong winds across the city. The weather office had initially issued an "orange" alert but upgraded it to "red," predicting moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph.
The rainfall brought relief to citizens after a dayslong spell of intense heat, though it led to traffic snarls in several areas. IMD data showed that Najafgarh recorded the highest rainfall in the region at 76 mm between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm on Tuesday. During the same period, Pusa received 37 mm of rain, Gurugram recorded 26 mm, Narayana saw 17 mm, Ghaziabad recorded 16 mm, and Janakpuri received 15 mm.
