European Embassy Hosts National Day Reception at Sci-Fi Venue Zora in Central Delhi

A European embassy hosted its national day reception this evening at Zora, a sci-fi-themed venue in Central Delhi near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, moving its largest annual social gathering outside its standard embassy compound.

The event brought together prominent local figures and international representatives, including foreign diplomats, bureaucrats, business executives, celebrities, influencers, and well-networked citizens. Foreign embassies in the capital typically mark their national days within their own chancery grounds, making the selection of an off-site commercial venue a rare exception to standard diplomatic protocol in Delhi.

The event was planned by embassy staff weeks in advance, with invitations e-mailed to guests across the city. Inside the venue, the hall featured giant mushroom-shaped structures rising from the floor to the ceiling, along with a transparent floor beneath which illuminated plants glowed. Overhead, a drone drifted across the hall to record the assembly from above.

Attendees arrived in a mix of traditional and formal attire. Women wore silk saris and tailored gowns, while men alternated between business suits and bandhgalas. A few foreign diplomats were clad in military uniforms heavy with medals. Among the attendees, a foreign diplomat was seen wearing an Indian sari draped in her own style.

The reception was formally launched from a podium, where the host envoy and the chief guest—typically a union minister—delivered speeches emphasizing friendship between the two nations. The addresses were followed by the playing of the national anthems.

Following the formal proceedings, the crowd dispersed into small clusters across the venue and around the drinks counter. Guests were served a buffet offering traditional dishes from the host European country alongside local cuisine such as dal makhani.
