DU Suspends Law PhD Scholar for Allegedly Slapping Professor at Umang Bhawan

Delhi University on Monday suspended a PhD scholar from the Faculty of Law and barred his entry into the university premises after he allegedly physically assaulted a professor at Umang Bhawan.
According to an official notice issued by the university's Office of the Proctor, the disciplinary action was initiated after reviewing CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred at around 10:30 am at Umang Bhawan. The scholar had secured admission to the Faculty of Law in Phase-II of the 2024-25 academic session.
The notice stated that the student stands suspended from the Faculty of Law with immediate effect. Additionally, the university barred his entry into all Delhi University premises under Ordinance XV-B of the Delhi University Act, 1922.
DU Proctor Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed the development, noting that the student was seen slapping a professor in the footage from Monday morning. He added that a formal panel has been tasked with looking into the altercation.
To conduct a detailed probe, Delhi University has constituted a three-member independent enquiry committee. The committee is chaired by Rajeev Gupta of the Department of Chemistry, with Vipul Singh from the Department of History and Sudha Singh from the Department of Hindi serving as its members.
According to a separate notice issued by the Office of the Proctor on Monday, the enquiry committee has been directed to investigate the alleged misconduct and submit its report to the university administration.
