DU Student Murder Accused Arrested After Gunfight With Police in Tilak Nagar

A 26-year-old man accused of killing a 21-year-old Delhi University student was arrested following a gunfight with the police in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar on Friday.

The accused, identified as Aqib alias Imran, was taken into custody after sustaining three bullet injuries to his leg during an exchange of fire with law enforcement personnel.

According to police officials, the encounter began when teams intercepted Imran in an attempt to apprehend him. During the confrontation, Imran fired four rounds at the police personnel. Officers on the scene retaliated by firing seven rounds, resulting in injuries to the suspect's leg and leading to his capture.

Imran, who worked as a gym trainer, had been on the run since allegedly stabbing the 21-year-old woman to death at her apartment on August 26. Following the murder, authorities established barricades and checkpoints across the district to prevent his escape, while deploying more than 15 dedicated police teams to track his movements.

Police said Imran had frequently changed his hideouts to evade capture. Investigators from the Special Staff and the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) eventually laid a trap after acting on a specific tip-off regarding his whereabouts.

According to investigators, Imran had known the victim for approximately 18 months before the incident, having first met her at the gym where he worked as a fitness trainer.
