DU Starts UG and PG Classes on July 28, SOL Adds 1,400 PG Seats
Delhi University will officially begin academic classes for all of its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on Tuesday, July 28, bringing students back to campuses across Delhi for the start of the new academic term. The commencement of teaching operations takes place even as the overall university admission process remains active, with candidates who were allotted seats in the second round of allocations continuing to finalize and confirm their admissions.
To grant candidates additional time to navigate and complete their admission procedures, university authorities adjusted the official seat confirmation schedule. On Sunday, Delhi University formally announced an extension of the deadline for candidates who were allotted seats during the second round, moving the final date to confirm admissions from Tuesday to Wednesday.
In a concurrent development impacting postgraduate education, the Delhi University School of Open Learning announced a new academic pathway on Monday. The School of Open Learning introduced a one-year postgraduate programme conducted in the Open and Distance Learning mode, specifically designed for graduates who have completed the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
The newly announced postgraduate programme under the School of Open Learning will offer a total of 1,400 seats for eligible candidates. The decision to establish this distance-learning programme comes directly following student protests regarding postgraduate seat capacity across the university.
The official announcement from the School of Open Learning follows demonstrations by students who voiced strong concerns over the limited number of seats available in one-year postgraduate programmes. Protesting students pointed out that the existing seat count in one-year postgraduate courses was inadequate when evaluated against the substantially larger number of students graduating upon completing the fourth year of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme.
As regular undergraduate and postgraduate classes officially begin on Tuesday, July 28, candidates allotted seats in the second round now have until Wednesday to complete their confirmations, while four-year degree graduates gain access to the 1,400 newly announced distance-learning postgraduate seats.
