DU Announces DUSU Elections for September 18, Votes to Be Counted Next Day

Delhi University will hold elections for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) on September 18, with the counting of votes scheduled for the following day on September 19. The official schedule was announced in a notification issued by the university registrar on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Candidates seeking to contest for DUSU office-bearer posts must submit their nomination papers at the office of the Chief Election Officer, located at the Conference Centre opposite the Botany Department in North Campus. The deadline to file nomination papers along with affidavits and a demand draft of ₹500 is September 10 up to 3 p.m.
According to the timeline outlined by the university, the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place at 3:15 p.m. on September 10. The publication of the list of duly nominated candidates will take place by 6 p.m. on the same day.
Candidates will be permitted to withdraw their nominations until 12 p.m. on September 11. Following the withdrawal window, the final list of contesting candidates will be published by 5 p.m. that evening.
Polling on September 18 will be split into two sessions to accommodate different class schedules. Students attending day classes will vote between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., while those in evening classes will vote from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Votes will be counted on September 19.
Nomination papers for members of the DUSU Central Council are to be obtained from the respective colleges, departments, and institutions. The university noted that nomination papers for all positions can also be downloaded from Delhi University's website.
The election will be conducted in accordance with the DUSU Code of Conduct and the DUSU Constitution. The process will also enforce relevant court directions, including the Supreme Court's Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and subsequent orders issued by the Delhi High Court and the National Green Tribunal.
